Process of Sand Casting
The process of sand forming belongs to the group of casting processes of the "lost form". A model (e.g. consisting of wood, plastic, metal or kilned clay) is therefore casted in sand, the model is removed and the remaining cavity is filled with metal. For undercuttings, which can not be poured because of their constructive form, an additional core is needed. Mostly a core consists of sand which is hardened with a binder and which allows the constructive undercutting because of its form. After the casting process the casting part is taken out of the sandbox by destroying the craked sandbox and the core.
Sandforming offers a great freedom of scope. A large variety of form cavities can be realized. So, it stands out through a technically high quality of precision casting.
The sand casting is suitable for the following applications:
- prototypes and small batches
- production runs with frequent model changing
- high volumes with complexity
